Walla Walla Symphony

Last Tuesday, our school symphony took a trip to Walla Walla ("the place so nice they named it twice) and saw their city's symphony perform an night of Strauss music. We took school buses up, and ate at Lorenzo's pizza (cheap, but not too bad ;). Follow the pics for more narration... :) Megan and Katie on the way....
Apparently, Alex doesn't like her picture being taken!

Bottom row: Katie and Megan
This was the foyer of the concert hall where the symphony was performing.
We found our seats (2nd row from the back), and settled in. The first two or three songs were really good, and some of my favorite. The horn concerto was AMAZING! It re-kindled my love for the French horn :)
But after intermission, it got... well, boring. We thought it was never going to end! They would end one movement, and we'd applause, thinking, "hallelujah, it's over!" Then realize that they still had 3 more movements to go! SO LONG!!!
The next day in orchestra our teacher apologized, saying that he didn't realize that the concert was going to last for 3 hours, and it wasn't the symphony he thought it was!
Right when we got out of the concert hall, it started raining! I didn't bring any other coat, and the only shoes I had were heels. It made for an interesting ride home! :D

Allow me to repeat myself- it was COLD!!!

This picture wasn't meant to be funny, I just like taking pictures of the whole bus to rememer who was there. However, if you look in the back, someone was apparently very into their story!

All in all, it was a great trip and I would go again. But from now on, I think it should just be a rule that symphonies shouldn't use repeat signs when performed in public!

Valentine's Party at Royal Columbian

Yesterday the retirement home (Royal Colombian) there was a Valentine's party for the residents. Our Child Psychology teacher told us that if we went and socialized with the people there it would count for the 10 service hours we're assigned per semester. I went, kind of nervous talking to people that I didn't know at all. It turned out to be one of the best experiences I've had this year.
When I first got there, the whole room was full of people in wheelchairs waiting for people to talk to them. Many looked lonely, and you could tell that they were desperate for someone to talk to. But by the end, all 17 of the students there had at least four or five new friends. I introduced my friends to the ones that I already knew, and we were laughing our guts out!We were getting pictures with them, and one of them named Vivian gave us all beanies that she knits! (see below)
Probably the best part of the whole thing was the very last. One of the girls that worked there told us that it was the lady named Yvonne turned 84 that day. We all made a circle around her and sang, and her hand went right to her heart. She told us that no one had sang that to her that day, and you could tell that she hadn't expected people to remember.
My new best friends now happen to be about 70 years older than me... :)

Randomness, thy name is Brett

These are pictures that Brett took while playing around with my camera.... a while ago. The clock, I think, actually looks kinda cool, but the eye is just..... superbly weird. I don't know how he did that (we haven't been able to replicate it...) but it sure looks cool!
